Are you able to keep your balance when meeting adversity on the
path of life? Annettee watched her friend do just that while in
nursing school.

                         Staying in Balance
                         Annettee Budzban

"For you have need of steadfast patience and endurance, so that
you may perform and fully accomplish the will of God, and thus
carry away (and enjoy to the full) what is promised."
Hebrews 10:36 (AMP)

In nursing school each week, we frantically scrambled to sign
up for a time slot to take our weekly exams. The prime time slots
were taken up quickly, so if we missed our exam time, finding a
replacement spot that would work with the rest of our schedule
was almost impossible.

One day before test time, my friend was wearing her
beautiful brand new, leather, burgundy-colored boots, with rope
embroidery up the sides, and two-and-a-half inch heels. As she
walked along, unexpectedly one of the heels loosened and came
off of her boot. As she beheld the broken off heel in the palm of
her hand, she realized that she was still quite a distance from the
room where her exam was taking place. She was literally caught
off balance.

"What am I going to do now?" She pondered.

She stopped for a moment and looked at her watch to see
how much time she had before the test started. Although she lived
close by, there was still no way she would have enough time to
make it home to change her boots and get back in time to take the
exam. So, she decided that she would just have to hobble to her
class no matter how difficult of a task this may be.

I was in the classroom sitting at my desk with my pencil in
hand, trying to get in the right frame of mind to answer the test
questions I faced before me. While wrestling in my seat to get
comfortable, I caught a glimpse out of the corner of my eye of my
friend's boots. I'd recognize them anywhere. As she walked up to
the front of the room to get her exam paper, my eyes followed the
hollow curve on the bottom of her boots, only to stop when I
noticed the two-and-a-half inch heels missing. Yes, when I saw her
boots both heels were missing!

How does she keep her balance so well? She has to be
balancing herself on her tiptoes inside of them. Why doesn't she
just take her boots off and walk in her stocking feet? Laughter
filled my soul as I pondered over my friend's antics.

However, when I gained my composure, I admired the beauty
of my friend's perseverance. She did not allow any loss stop to her
from taking that exam. She was determined to advance in life no
matter what obstacle was in her path.

The broken heels on my friend's boots taught me that during
times of life when we are broken with hurt and disappointment,
that we need to keep our balance in God's principles, of
perseverance and steadfastness, walking with integrity no matter
what we face.

My friend was a shining example as she walked down that
aisle, unshaken and unmoved by her adverse circumstance. She
kept her balance as she walked for all she was worth!

                     Letters From Our Readers

Janet Seever,
Isn't God great?I think that your story, "Exactly The Right
Teacher" is another example of how God meets our every need. I
was blessed by yet another testimony of how prayer works and in
sometimes the simplest ways.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. TODAY is a GIFT.
With God's love and mine.
Barbara Bullock

                           Cheryl’s Corner

A few of you sharp eyed readers may notice that there is a name
missing on the list of military names we pray for, Howard.
Howard’s military time was up two weeks ago and had to make the
long drive home from California where he had been stationed.

Growing up next-door, he and Jeremy were nearly five years
old before they realized they weren’t brothers and Howard was
really an only child. So when he started the long drive, he called
Jeremy and asked him to stay by the phone and navigate him
home. Every fork in the road he called to find out which way to go.
Jeremy kept every computer in the house turned to the map sites.

I asked, “Wouldn’t it be easier if he just stopped and bought a
map?”

“It probably would,” Jeremy told me, “but it wouldn’t be as
much fun.”

Howard made it home. He was only lost in Texas for five hours,
had to pay three dollars a gallon for gas in the desert and arrived on
two bald tires which blew two miles from home.
