Davidson -------------------------------------------------------------
It is hard to enjoy a week-end away with friends when you have left behind a Father dying of cancer. In the Australian Winter of 2000 my husband Guy andI found ourselves in the country with friends from our local church. Part of me wanted to stay back in the city close to Dad, but I knew I desperately needed a break away from the depressing picture of my sick Father.
We enjoyed hearing Bellbirds at the stopover for morning tea in the mountains. The birds made an amazing ringing call in cacophony of sound in our outdoorbush cathedral. After a beautiful drive through the bush we finally made the country town and its warm motel where a whole bunch of us were staying.
My heart was heavy and my mind trying to comprehend just how I should organize a funeral service for my Father. I have loved the Lord for many years now, but no one else in my large family knew Him. The challenge was in how to give Dad a loving, respectful funeral when many had been hurt by him.
In all of this the Lord had led me to use a Scottish theme with the tartan colors of the Lothian-Stuart Clan. After all, Dad was born in Portree, Isle of Skye in Scotland. I know nothing of my Father's background have never met any of his family. That was all the information I had to go on.
After a lovely night of good food, friends and funny stories near a warm fireplace, we all trooped off to our motel rooms for a good nights sleep. I had been asked if Guy and I were heading over to the monthly markets held over the road from our Motel. "We'll see", was my response. Who knows what the night held in store.
At the markets there were long tables setup with all sorts of treasures and crafts. A table of bush honey in jars, homemade goodies etc. Guy and I meandered around and just enjoyed seeing the wares. Then, into view came some sort of Tartan material. When I got closerI could see it was a Scottish Kilt. My eyes just couldn't take in that in all of thewares spread out before us, was a Scottish Kilt. I felt drawn to it like a magnet!
When I inquired of the owner whether it was a real one or just a copy she answered that it actually came from Scotland. Inquiring further I thought I would ask as to what Clan it belonged to. After a while she recalled it belonged to the Stuart clan, the very clan my father came from. Needless to say, the Kilt was bought and taken home with us. Finding the Kilt was bitter sweet, it confirmed to me that Dad did not have long to go in this life and reminded me that my Heavenly Father was deeply involved in this season of my life.
On a clear day in September, the day of my Father's funeral, my 16 year old daughter walked to the front of the funeral home. In a clear and unfaltering voice she read from Ecclesiastes 3 "There is a time for everything and there is a season..", I was so proud of her dressed in her blue shirt and the Stuart Kilt which God had led me to all those months ago. In my minds eye I think Dad would have smiled down on us to see Emma in her Scottish Kilt, a perfect size 10.
This story is dedicated to Lionel Keith Stuart Lothian who went to be with God on September 10, 2000 and was born again in his 87th year. Dear Dad, see you in heaven!

---------------------------------------------------------------- Letters From Our Readers --------------------------------------------------------------- Betty's story was a great read. How many times has God intervened in our lives and we didn't know it? I'm so glad the only casualty was a key chain. Can you imagine the conviction the thief falls under each time he looks at it? Casey ***** The 911 memorial site was awesome! I'm afraid I did get teary eyed and looked away time to time. The pictures were so heartbreaking. David has the site up and running. We went back and placed spaces in all the writers email addresses. We also made a few changes. A writer's resource page was added. I would appreciate feedback on the changes. Go to www.write2theheart.com and take a look.
Pat Bode has graciously invited all the ladies from our church to a Ladies Retreat. We leave this Friday. Does anyone know some great pranks to pull? I'm a little rusty on sleepovers.
