The End Of An Era
By Cheryl Speir
------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------

The graduates marched in one at a time.  Some had huge smiles on
their face's, some sauntered in with a "let's get this over with"
attitude, and some kept their eyes downcast not daring to look at
the crowd that had assembled in their honor. They stood at their
seats until all twelve arrived, than sat in unison.

We parents sat across the aisle with our smiles of pride, while
fighting tears.  Were they tears of sorrow or tears of relief?
For some, this was their first child to graduate.  For me, this
was the last of my four sons.

These were the graduates of the home school co-operative Jeremy
and I belonged to. This was Jeremy's senior graduation ceremony.

A past home school graduate provided the Commencement speech.
After the speech, there was a slide presentation.  It was
startling how quiet the church auditorium became during this
presentation. Cast upon the wall were snapshot images showing
each graduate growing and developing.  A musical selection chosen
by the graduate accompanied their group of pictures. For fifteen
minutes this went on, with no fidgeting from the audience.
Everyone was enthralled with childhood images of each graduate
ending with his or her senior portrait.

Jeremy's eleven photo's was accompanied by "When All Is Said and
Done". There had been a quiet struggle behind the scene to find
the perfect selection. Nothing had suited his fancy. When his
pictorial life story flashed on the wall with that song playing,
it was so right.

As each graduate was called, they would make their way to the
platform and their parents would meet them.  They would hand
their mother a rose and hug her, then dad would shake their hand
and present them with their diploma.

As Jeremy hugged me, he whispered "I love you, mom” causing me to
look up with startled joy. He is just like his mother and we are
not the sentimental types.   When his father presented him with
his diploma, they bear hugged.

Each diploma announced the name chosen for each home school. Some
were quite serious, some humorous. We called our school Amazing
Grace Academy. It was by God's amazing grace that we
accomplished this school year.

There they stood, all together on the platform, the class of
2001.  Each one special. Each one unique. Each with different
goals and dreams.  With one united movement, they shifted their
tassels.

A Friends Promise
By: Gale Stevens

A Friend's Promise

I will be right here when you need a friend
Stand beside you until the very end
I will dry the tears that you cry
Hold you when your luck runs dry
Never will I turn my back on you
Where you go, I will always go too
When you call on me, you will see
That, right there beside you, I will be
You may turn around and walk away
But, there will never come a day
Than you can not turn and find me
Right there, where a friend should be

Hooray for Gale Stevens - my e-mail  friend on Luck - Glad that
God was smiling on you with your Blessing Pillows. I have used
place mats for my Bible Cover sewed up just right. But you gave
me an idea when I go to a "price is right store" Lions and
Tigers and Bears, Oh My! Thanks for the ideas, aren't pillows
outrageously priced for US folks.  Love ya, E

Cheryl's Corner

Oh, my aching muscles!

We are in the middle of remodeling our old house to put
it on the market.  Climbing up and down on a chair to paint
the top of walls is giving me more exercise than I want.

Then there is the added factor of being told we have someone
coming to look at the house this weekend!  The pressure is on.

I hope all of you mothers had a wonderful Mother's Day.  I had
the best!  All boy's called, that is a first.  I have two
bouquets of  beautiful flowers and and box of chocolates that I
will be sitting in the closet to eat.  Tim took me to my favorite
restaurant.  What a delicious holiday!

God Bless
Cheryl
