Today’s story and poem reminds us to create those special
moments in our children’s and grandchildren’s lives and not to
neglect creating a special moment with our Heavenly Father.

Girl’s Day
By Melva Cooper
------------------------------------------------------------

Granddaddy had gone to Rotary. Mom and sister, Faith, were at
Cheerleading Camp. That left Mary Kathryn and me at home.
So, we had a ‘Girl’s Day’!

We began with an early lunch at one of our favorite restaurants.
First, it was their specialty, Spinach Queso Dip and chips for me,
and cheese sticks for Mary Kathryn. The salad bar and yummy
chicken completed our cozy meal for two.

Mary Kathryn then found it difficult to select our next stop.
Glittering play necklaces and shiny bracelets from the mall are
sometimes her choice. The bookstore and its massive array of
reading material always beckons to me. But, trusty Wal-Mart with
the humongous toy aisle won out that day. Visions of Barbie dolls
and their accessories were floating around in Mary Kathryn’s mind
as I made my way into a parking place.

A raspberry Icee from the summer sno-cone stand was to be our
last stop. Both of us decided we were exhausted and we would
make that another day. With joy on our countenance, affection in
our voices, and contentment in our hearts, we started home. It had
been a day of loving, giving, and sharing with one another.

I don’t know who enjoyed ‘Girl’s Day’ the most. Of course, Mary
Kathryn was the one who came home with Barbies, a new back-
pack to start school in a few weeks, and a special package of candy
that only a grandma would purchase!

"It is more blessed to give than to receive," is so true on days like
that. God loves to give unto us. Exceedingly abundantly above all
that we ask or think is the way He describes it in His Holy Word.
He, also, loves that one-on-one time with us, much like Mary
Kathryn and I shared that day. How peaceful and joyful I feel
when I spend special time with Him. Reading, meditating on His
Word and communicating with Him in prayer, help me more fully
understand when He says to me, "It is more blessed to give than to
receive." A "Girl’s Day" with my granddaughter, and "Quiet Time" with my
Heavenly Father enrich and fulfill my life
immensely.

Morning Awakenings
By Ginger Boda
---------------------------------------------------------------
I awaken to the call of my sweet children in the hall;
"No, I had it first, so give it to me now!"
I rub my tired eyes and hear my other boy reply,
"It is MINE and you can't have it anyhow!"
So I rise from my warm bed with a throbbing in my head,
to referee at seven in the morn.
I gruffly try to whisper, "You'll awaken baby sister"
"Put the book away!" But it too late ... it's torn.
Then there follows accusations as I feel my reservations
about rising from beneath my cozy covers.
As I stumble over toys and try to hush down all the noise,
in the kitchen, burning toast I do discover!
So commands for kids to dress and clean up all their mess,
are followed by my baby's morning cry.
I retrieve her from her crib, change her, then put on her bib;
hoping that she'll eat the eggs I'm going to fry.
Finally, off to school one goes as I wipe another's nose.
Laundry sorted and the beds are neatly made.
As I scoop up Cheerios from off the floor and 'neath my toes,
I sadly wonder, "Has my self worth been betrayed?"
When I'm startled by a scream of little fingers smashed, it seems,
but as I dry the tears, the phone rings off the hook ...
Then the dog runs through the door, knocks my plants upon the floor,
and I cry, "LORD! I feel my life has been forsook!"
But as I sink down to my knees, little arms around me squeeze,
then a small voice whispers, "Mommy, I love you."
I softly kiss each little face and all my anguish is erased
As I thank God for each NEW DAY He brings me too!
