--------------------------------------------------------- I am pleased to announce a first time submitter to Write 2 The Heart, and designer of our logo, my son Chris! I can laugh now, but, come to think of it, I was laughing then also. Boys are such an adventure to raise. I'm so glad I didn't miss it! --------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------- Mom, Taken For Granted By: Chris Speir ---------------------------------------------------------
Living in Alaska is so much different that when I was young living back in south Mississippi on ten acres of land in a little two-bedroom house. In Alaska, you have millions of acres of mountains and dangers within feet of your house.
As my two boys and I get our camping gear ready for the weekend and load up the truck, my wife is standing there letting out feelings of uncertainty, "Don't take your eyes off them boys for one second", she would say to me as I repeat the age old, "Yes dear". She would go on, "If you see a bear, you get to the truck and come home right then". "Logan, don't try to pet the moose, you run to the truck."
As she was standing there, I couldn't help but remember when my brothers and I were younger, we would live in the woods if mom would let us. I couldn't help but laugh at all the turtles and frogs that we lost in the house and how we would bring snakes home and put them in our make shift terrarium, only for them to be loose somewhere in the house in the morning. I could remember my mom hugging me and saying, "Be careful and don't do anything silly", when my friend Jason and I would go camping for days out on the river. Being a mother of four, I could imagine how exhausted my mom could be at the end of the day just saying to herself, "All four of them are home and asleep, thank God".
I know it isn't mothers day, but with the way mothers love their children and the way children do things and think about it after the fact, I wanted to let my mom know that even now living in Alaska, I can still feel her hugs and hear her voice when I go out to teach my boys how to be silly in the woods.
Thank you mom, I love you Chris Speir Chrisspeir1 @ aol.com

FROM OUR READERS ---------------------------------------------------------
Cheryl, Great stories and poems. "Trying Their Wings" especially reminds me of daughter #3 when she went to Central Washington University, which is about an hour's drive from Ephrata. She stayed in a dorm, and one morning I received a phone call from her. She said, "Mom, it's snowing!" It was the first snowfall of the season. She called often, long distance of course. She had a hard time letting go...same with me.
She, her husband & their two kids live in Ephrata, only a few minutes drive from us. We enjoy them so much. Her sisters are farther away, one lives in Tacoma, WA, and the other Moved to Florida a year ago. Hugs, Pat Lowe
(Please, as you read this, pray for Pat, one of her friends wrote that she is very ill and only has one third of normal lung capacity. She suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and gammaguobulinemia. Pat has been such an encourager for our new writers.)
Dear Cheryl--- I'm so glad to be back home and able to get your messages again!! This was SO good to read---all of the things on your ezine! Thanks!!
We were gone 5 weeks, traveling around the country. It was lots of fun. I love retirement!! Nancee --------------------------------------------------------- Cheryl's Corner --------------------------------------------------------- I have a little frog that lives by my back door. He patrols the area for slugs and bugs. I keep a pile of leaves for him to burrow in to escape the sun. When it is dry, I fill a plant saucer with water and he plops into it and sits and soaks with just his eyes above the water.
With the onset of several days of rain from the tropical storm that has been sitting over us, he has moved into my laundry room to escape. There is too much water even for him. I couldn't help but laugh with pleasure as he fearlessly hopped around my feet.
As I thought about him, I wondered, shouldn't we be like Froggy? In dry times stay close to where we know God will water us. In times of anointing venture out with boldness, bringing joy to those who live in dry places?
Bet you thought I forgot. Drum roll please.... we are going to have a baby boy in October! We are all excited. That makes four sons and four grandsons. Oh boy, more spiders, snakes and tadpoles. I guess I better save pickle jars for those makeshift terrariums. God Bless Cheryl
