Like A Hug From Heaven
By: Gale Stevens
-----------------------------------------------------

I had an experience the other day that touched my heart.
It was on a day that my oldest daughter and I had gone
shopping together. We were celebrating her 13th birthday.
I didn't have much money, so time alone together was my
gift. We spent the whole day together. But, that was only
my gift to her, it wasn't all of God's gift to me.

One of the places that we went was the Wal-Mart in Houston.
We were over in the ladies clothing department looking around.
There was a lady there in one of those get around scooter/wheel-
chairs. She was looking for half slips and couldn't find them.
So, she asked me if I knew where they were. I didn't, but I was
happy to look around for her.

I could walk around easily to look. She could not. I looked
around until I found them. I told her where they were but her
scooter thingee just wouldn't get down the aisle to them. I
helped her find what she thought would be the right size. Then,
she wanted to try it on to make sure it wouldn't be too tight.
She struggled out of her scooter and was attempting to try it on.
It was a difficult task for her and I decided to help. There was
no way I could just stand there and watch or just leave. What if
it was not the right size? She would have been stuck with no way
to put it back or to get a different size.

We got the slip on and it was a good fit. Since we had had to
struggle some putting it on over her head, she decided to slip it
off at the bottom. I knelt and helped her slide it down. Then as
she struggled to raise each one of her feet, I slid it out from
under each foot. Our mission was complete and she was happy with
the slip we had picked out. She was still standing beside her
scooter. Standing was obviously hard for her. I don't remember
her exact words, but her intention was to pay me for helping her.

I told her, "No, Ma'am, I had a Grandma that I loved very much.
Payment has already been made in full."

She had tears in her eyes as she held out her arms to give me a
hug. I gladly accepted her hug. She told me thank you for my
kindness and that it had meant a great deal to her. She might
have gotten the kindness, but it was I who got the blessing. The
hug only lasted about three seconds, but it was an awesome three
seconds. It felt to me like my own Grandma had found a way to
give me a hug from Heaven. I hadn't felt anything that came close
to one of my Grandma's hugs in a long time. But, I did that day.
I could even almost smell my Grandma's smell. It made my whole
day even brighter.

My Grandma passed away many years ago. I had thought that
I would never feel that close to her again while I was still on
earth. My Grandma taught me many things while she was here. She
was a very God loving woman. As I received my hug from this dear
lady in a scooter, I was once again reminded of all the good
things I had been taught. All of the good memories returned to me
and I had a very divinely blissful moment.

I don't guess this lady will ever know how she blessed me that
day. She will probably always think that it was me that had done
something for her. But, I know and God knows, and I think my
Grandma must have smiled her wonderful smile.

Prayer For Change
By: Pat Bode
------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------

Change me, mold me to be more like you,
Change me, mold me to be faithful and true.
Teach me your will to do for today.
Show me what and how to pray.
Use me as a vessel to pour out to others,
To reach all my sisters and all my brothers.
Guide me on the right path,
Remove all obstacles from my past.
Direct me along each every day,
Help me open up and pave the way
To bring others to your side,
To help them open up and not hide.
Remove the fear that's been installed,
Tear down the walls that made them fall.
Open their eyes and let them feel the love,
Give them joy and Peace from the Father above.
Let them know your here for them too,
We're all God's children, each and everyone of you.
We all have to change to be more like Him.
Pray for God to remove your sin.
Open up and ask for His will,
Close your eyes and be very still.
You'll be surprised for what's in store,
God will come to you and open the door.
He will reveal what His plan is for you,
All you have to do is be willing, faithful, and true.

My sister has finally made it to the 21st century! (Hi Karen) She is
now online and we are loving being able to talk without running
up our long distance bill. Don't you just love this instant
email gratification? It was email that finally got me to learn
how to use that first gray "box" that sat in my livingroom for
two years. God Bless, Cheryl
