Remember charm bracelets? What a wonderful way to keep
memories together. Diane was able to share a memorable moment
with her granddaughter by showing her the memories she had
collected over the years.

                         The Memory Bracelet
                       By: Diane Dean White
------------------------------------------------------------
Recently when our daughter and two grand-gals came to visit, our
oldest, and I decided to have a dress-up tea party! This is always
fun, especially with a four year old who loves to go through all of
Granma's old (another name for collectible) jewelry. As we were
examining strands of necklaces, many that had been my Mothers
or Grandmothers, and others from estate sales where I purchased
them just for a "dress-up tea time;" with so many things to choose
from, Jessica picked up something that was very special to me.

"Wow Granma, listen to the tingle noise it makes," she remarked,
her eyes shining as she held onto the bracelet I remembered so
well. I took her little hand and we walked over to the bed and sat
down, placing the bracelet on the quilt to look at.

"Jessica, do you know how old this charm bracelet is? I remember
the day I was with MY grandmother, we were looking at them on a
shopping trip to the city. Grandma wanted to be sure I had a
bracelet that would be strong enough to hold all the charms I
would collect during my high school years and college days." I told her.

"Are these charms, Granma?" Jessica was puzzled.

"Yes, they are. I was 15 when my Grandmother gave it to me.
Charm bracelets were very popular when I was in high school." I
went on. "This one holds many special memories for me. Each little charm
reminds me of a place or a person from years ago. And
each charm came from a place somewhere that made me happy, a
memory of a very special time."

"What's this Granma?" Jessica said pointing to miniature bell.

"It is a charm from a trip I was on with my Mother and
Grandmother, to visit a girl friend who lived in Saginaw. And the
one next to it with the number '16' was given to me for my
birthday." I replied.

I watched as Jessica dangled the charms making a sweet gentle
noise with them. I recalled the youth activities that would take me
to various states across the country, and I always managed to find a
charm to add to my collection. Others were given to me as gifts
from high school chums, and represented a special activity, a prom
or a competition I was in.

One had a heart with a key and the moon; another was a telephone,
a Mexican hat represented a trip to Mexico. Two represented my
high school and college names and colors. They were still in good
shape after all these years. I held them up to the sun, and Jessica
watched the color beams dancing around the room.

"Look, Granma, watch the colors." She giggled.

"Jessica, maybe someday you will have a charm bracelet with your
own memories, and you can show it to your granddaughter." I
thought out loud. "But for now maybe we should keep it some
place special, and when you come to visit me again we'll get it out
and look at all the little charms that tingle, okay?" I looked at her
happy face.

"Granma, will I have memories?" she said with her serious big
eyes?

"Oh, you'll have enough for two bracelets." I hugged and tickled
her!

As we prepared for our tea party, Ithought to myself, charm
bracelets are coming back into style now...I wonder if I should start
another one? This one would include such avariety of new events
and memories of today....and they would all have a special tingle
too!

                     Letters From Our Readers
--------------------------------------------------------------
Betty's story really emphasizes the commitment that is involved
when we say I do. Our vision is so limited to the right now, that we
don't see the bumpy road ahead. Maybe we have fairy tale vision,
"and they all lived happily ever after." To many times, when things
get rough, people bale out of marriage. How can we be
overcomer's if we ignore the opportunity to overcome?

I'm so glad to see Betty-Jo's poem. I know I wouldn't be where I
am today if my mother hadn't prayed. This one is going on my
refrigerator, not only to remind me of how my mother prayed for
me, but to remind me how I want my kids to be able to say the
same thing.

                           Cheryl's Corner

My son Aaron and I were discussing the difference between his
family and his older brother Chris' family. Chris's sons fall asleep
by eight each night, while Aaron's sons get wired by that time.

"The big difference between our kids is that Chris and his family
are on Daylight Savings Time," Aaron said with a laugh.

I couldn't resist teasing, "And your family lives on Party Time!"

God Bless,
Cheryl
