It wasn't until after I had scheduled Pete's story that I
realized that I had scheduled it for April Fools' Day. I think I
would enjoy meeting Pete's mischievous wife.

                             Swan Dance
                           By Pete Hall
------------------------------------------------------------

I was very quiet when I slid into bed. My wife was already asleep,
her gentle, innocuous snore telling me I had succeeded in not
awakening her. I got settled in, and only needed to turn onto my
side, when a movement caught the corner of my eye. My wife's arm
rose up and separated itself from the wrinkled mass of blanket, as if
being levitated by the darkness.

The arm and hand moved sinuously, like a snake from a basket,
weaving a strange pattern in the air. It's shadowy elegance not
unlike the silhouette of a swan.

I watched fascinated until the movement stopped, then I gently
placed my hand over hers and lowered it back down to the blanket.
No sooner had I done this and was preparing to make my original
turn over to where I sleep on my side, than the arm rose once again.
Her hand moved this way and that, like the periscope of a
submarine, searching for torpedo prey.

Again, I gently pushed it back to the blanket. When all was still, I
prepared anew to settle into my sleeping position.

And, again, her arm rose up in the darkness. This time, when I
reached over to push it back down, it avoided my touch. Frowning,
I listened and heard the gentle snore that told me she was still
asleep. I reached for the hand and arm and they eluded my grasp
with serpentine weaving and graceful evasion.

I followed, unable to catch up as she weaved, darted and dodged,
successfully dancing her way through the shadowy dimness. Her
arm sidled and slid with sinewy stealth, always one move ahead of
me.

When I found I could not catch up to her movements, I stopped,
confused and wondering if I had already fallen asleep and was
dreaming. After a moment more of periscope-like searching, the
arm lowered itself to the blanket, my wife rolled over with her back
to me, and giggled.

                     Letters From Our Readers

Cheryl
Mary- Ellen's story, My Neighbor, My Friend was written with
the same descriptive and eloquent style I have grown to
expect from her writings! I enjoyed as usual her style and her
story. She looks at life and the things that have occurred in her life
in such a special light.

                           Cheryl's Corner

My oldest son, Chris, has wanted a piano for some time.
Right now it is out of his budget while his sweet wife is in
school. But God knows the desires of our hearts and can
make a way when there seems to be no way.

A lady who owns a rental house asked Chris and his wife to
clean up after the last renters moved. The renters had left a
horrible mess. The owner told him everything had to be
hauled off and if there was anything he wanted he was
welcome to it. Against a wall, almost completely hidden by
trash, stood an old upright piano. It now graces their living
room.

God Bless,
Cheryl
