If you have children, you have humorous "pocket stories". Pat
entertains us with a tale of checking her daughters pockets and
finding an unusual pocket treasure with instructions printed on
the side. Sure enough, young Linda followed the instructions to
the letter.

Rub On Teeth?
By: Pat Lowe
---------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------

Linda, our middle daughter, loved to collect small items when she
was a young child. Her dad commented on the way she slowed them
down while they were walking the dog in the unpaved alleys in our
neighborhood. It seems she was always walking along looking down
at the ground for possible treasures; a colorful piece of broken
glass, a pretty rock, a button...anything that caught her eye. She
would stop, pick something up, look it over, and tuck it away
safely in her pocket.

One evening, after our daughters were tucked in bed, I decided to
wash Linda's coat. While performing usual ritual of emptying her
pockets. I found many valuable "collectibles", including one of
those clear wax pencils from our small local cleaners that are
used to un-stick zippers. The instructions read "To un-stick
zippers, rub on teeth." Linda was always doing funny things in
those days, and I was curious about how she would interpret those
instructions. When I looked at that slightly used wax pencil, I
asked her dad if he thought she had tried to use it.

The next morning I asked her about the pencil, and if it worked.
She said "Not very well, I rubbed it on my teeth but the zipper
didn't work any better".

Linda still does some funny little things at the age of 45. The
next time she comes for a visit, I think I'll check her pockets.

RECEIPT OF LOVE
By: Pat Bode
-------------------------------------------------------
I'm sending you a receipt, one you cannot buy,
   It's a bond between us; it's a lasting tie.
It comes from deep inside us all,
All we have to do is give God a call.
This receipt of love He is sending to you,
Comes from the Holy Spirit that dwells in you too.
You have gathered here to eat of His bread and wine,
When you came to His table His light did shine.
When you take and eat His bread,
   and cook that favorite meal.
Count your Blessings and be grateful,
   For God's love always heals.
Add a little patience and understanding love,
For your strength and courage comes from God above.
And as you go on your way,
Don't forget to kneel down and pray.
Pray for forgiveness and peace of mind,
For His receipt of love takes some time.

FROM OUR READERS
--------------------------------------------------------
What a clever idea you had for your kids' gifts this year (not
putting their names on them)!  Mothers have to be so inventive,
don't we?

I'm looking forward to 2002. Hope I can get to write more. I
have so many stories I think of when I read what others have
written. It jogs my memories. Keep up the good work.
Love,
Nancee

Hi there. Read this story last year but certainly enjoyed reading
the "smiles" again this year. Apparently when you re-read an
author's stories and enjoy the story all over again...that means
they are darn good!! Hope you had a lovely Christmas as we
certainly did. Have a great New Year's Eve. and all the very best
of good health and happiness to you and your family in the
upcoming year.

Cheryl's Corner

Here we are in a brand new year! Did you make New Year's
resolutions? I have never been a New Year's resolution maker. I
figured whenever I saw a need for change in my life, do it then.

I didn't tell you about Tim's surprise.  He had written and told
me he would fly home on the Friday before Christmas. I misplaced
the letter and literally tore up the house looking for it so I
could verify to myself of when and where to pick him up. When I
found the letter, I discovered I would have been at the wrong
airport. I had twenty-four hours to get the house back in shape
before he got home. While clearing the guest clutter out of his
bedroom, I heard a car door slam in the front yard. Looking out of
his window I saw my son walking up the sidewalk. My family usually
can't keep a secret but did a good job of it this time. His first
words? "Why is this house in such a mess"?

God Bless,
Cheryl
